Día del niño

In Honduras, and much of Latin America, there is a Day of the Child, similar to Mother’s or Father’s Day, in which children are celebrated. This day is a special day for all kids and is typically celebrated with lots of candy, toys and games for the kids. For Dia del nino this year at the school, teachers had planned different fun games for the classes such as water balloon fights, flour tossing, and a pinata. Kids were running around soaking wet, covered in flour and enjoying every single minute of their day.

Día de Independencia

September 15th is the Honduran Independence Day and is celebrated country-wide with huge school parades equipped with marching bands and participants dressed up in all things related to Honduras. Here are a few of the many things the kids dressed as:

Ms. Independence

The Republic of Honduras

Beautiful Native

Child of Religion

Child of the Flowers

Ms. Garifuna (African-Honduran)

The school marched through the streets, while the band played songs such as the Honduran national anthem, and finished the parade in the Finca where there was a presentation of the participants which included dancing, poem recitals and singing.

Honduran Wedding

The missionaries were honored to attend the wedding of one of our own, our security guard Selvin. Selvin married his beautiful wife in the newly built church in the neighboring town with the company of their family and many friends.

Other September shenanigans:
