Feast Day of St. Francis

For the Feast of St. Francis, our religious sisters put on a barbecue for all the workers of the Finca. Luis, our Finca driver, and I were on grill duty to help feed the masses. Imagine being in 90 degree weather with 80% humidity next to hot coals…!

Baptisms

The Bishop of Trujillo came down to the Finca to baptize four of our children. Rather than baptizing them over the bowl of Holy Water or taking the conservative method most priests do, the Bishop took 3 giant cups full of water and poured them over each kid like a waterfall. After each child was baptized, he lifted the kid up on his shoulders and sung a song with the congregation to celebrate. The children, dressed in their Sunday best with white dresses, suits, and nicely styled hair that took hours to do, finished the rest of the mass absolutely drenched  It was the most exciting and shocking baptism and mass I've ever been to.

New Missionaries

In mid-October, we welcomed new missionaries to the Finca! A family with four girls, the Looby’s, plus nurse Chloe joined us.

Rainy Season

Rainy season is officially here! During the winter months the weather changes drastically. The humidity goes up, the rain comes down, and the sea gets crazy. If you happen to leave your clothes out on the line, it's not uncommon to see them going through a fourth or fifth wash. The old dirt road to town becomes covered in potholes, the Finca paths become rivers, and believe it or not, the Hondurans bring out their sweaters!
